Blog: Versailles 5/31/26


Today, I was in Versailles staying at my correspondant — Léonie's — grandmother's house. The previous day I watched PSG play against Arsenal. They won which was great. The city went nuts!! I stayed in Sceaux, a town in between Paris and Versailles. I started off the day by waking up at 10:30 AM and eating a box of Trésor, a French brand of chocolate cereal. After this Léonie, myself, Hermine — one of Léonie's older sisters —, and Léonie's mom went to Versailles for the day. Here is a picture of the view outside of the appartement. 


(Not the best picture, but I just wanted to include it because it was where I was living.) 

At around 11h00 we headed to Versailles. We first stopped at a crêperie, which was delicious. I got a complete poitrine fumée — a type of crêpe with bacon, cheese, and egg. I also got a confiture de fraise which is a type of crêpe with strawberry jelly. Here is a picture of the restaurant we went to, and a picture of my complete poitrine fumée crêpe. 



After this, at about 1:00PM, we all headed to le Château de Versailles. There were many beautiful paintings and photos we took here, but I just want to show you five of my favorite ones. This photo shows me, Léonie, and Hermine just outside of le château de Versailles. I wanted to include this picture to show the beautiful architecture the castle — with real gold in some places! — and because of the French flag waving in the background. 


This picture shows the room where many Mesdames de France who are the daughters of Louis XV. Two daughters that lived here were Madame Adélaïde and Madame Victoire. (This was noted on the plaque I saw that explained the room). I chose this photo because I thought it was cool seeing the bed and the paintings, and thinking about how the daughters of Louis the 15th lived.


This picture shows Louis XVI (16th) writing his will while he was imprisoned during the French Revolution. Louis XVI was imprisoned because the French people thought he was abusing power as king and betraying France as a whole. I chose this photo because it illustrates Louis the 16th's emotion and sadness while knowing his death was imminent. 


This picture is the interior of the chapel inside at the Palace of Versailles. I chose this picture to include in my blog because the architecture and attention to detail is beautiful. The paintings on the ceiling and the unique columns really show the beautiful architecture. 


This picture shows the garden just outside the Palace of Versailles. There's much green space and unique designs etched into the garden. I enjoyed walking around the park and taking in all there was to see. 


After visiting Versailles I returned to Léonie's grandmother's house to pack my things so I could catch a train back to Lyon. While doing this I saw on TV the celebration of the PSG soccer team winning the day before. Here is a picture of what I saw on TV: 


The title at the bottom says "PSG: Historic Unity, Paris overflowing with happiness."

After packing, Léonie, Léonie's mom, Hermine, and I headed for the train back to Lyon. I arrived back at the apartment in Lyon at about 23h00. Overall, it was a very good day with many beautiful sights to see like le Château de Versailles and being able to witness history with PSG celebrating winning against Arsenal.

With my alarm ringing in my ears and the sunshine already beating down on my face, I woke up and got out of bed at 6:00 in the morning despite my reluctance to do so. Afterwards, I prepared for a long and tiring day. Even though May 22nd was our last day of school at BCHigh, today, May 26th, 2026, marked our first day of “school” at Lycée Saint-Marc. So, after having fixed my backpack, my host student and I headed out the door and started walking to the métro station. Thankfully, it hadn’t become too hot yet, so the walk was not as horrible, yet it still took some time until we eventually arrived at the Sans Souci subway station. After having stood in the métro for a while, we eventually arrived at Bellecour station, the closest one to the Lycée. My host student and I ran into another pair of exchange students, so the four of us walked to school together. T oday was the long awaited day where we finally traveled to Lyon. I know we have all been waiting for this day, both parents and students, and I know we students have been working extra hard to finish all of our work. Today the work came to a close and the travel began.  We all followed Monsieur Salamone and Madame McGrath through TSA which went smoothly. We then all took a group photo. After TSA we made our way to our gate and dropped all of our backpacks off. We then went with our travel buddies to get food from the food court or sit down at a restaurant. After/during dinner, we played card games to pass the time. Eventually it was time to board, and off we went. The plane ride was roughly five and a half hours and it was relatively smooth. When we landed it was Saturday!

Today was our first full day in Lyon. I woke up at 8:30 am and ate breakfast with my host family shortly afterward. In the morning, my host family took me to Vieux Lyon (Old Lyon) — the oldest part of Lyon. There are many shops for food and shopping there, sitting right next to the Saône River. Eventually, we made our way to Hôtel de Ville de Lyon — Lyon’s city hall. The building is just to the North-East of Vieux Lyon. Then, we crossed the Saône River to find a place to eat. We found a restaurant that serves traditional French food. I tried some Gratin de Ravioles and escargots (snails). Snails are considered to be a traditional French dish. After lunch, we went back home and relaxed in the pool. A few other classmates and their exchange students joined us. A few hours later, we had dinner, which consisted of pasta bolognese along with some cheese. After dinner, I became tired, marking the end of the first full day in Lyon.
